2 Corinthians 2:12
“Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord…”
Life consists of an abundance of doors. Opportunities, that is, upon which the events of our life hinge and swing. There are doors through which we may enter, and there are doors which do not ever open to us. There are doors that seem to swing open of their own accord, and others that, although beat upon daily, seem to be incorrigibly stubborn, and cannot be breached. They are forever shut. For you see, there is only One that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth. That is the Lord! Therefore, the only doors that truly should be walked through are the ones that He opens. And we should not attempt to burst through the doors that the Lord has not opened for us.
Here, Paul says that a door was opened. And furthermore, that the door was opened of the Lord. The door of the Gospel! Sometimes, the Lord doesn’t open that door, for it is not the specific task or place to which He has assigned us. Other times, He opens it because it is, without a doubt, the very opportunity He wants us to utilize for the propagation and promotion of His everlasting Gospel. Let us be discerning enough and alert enough and sensitive enough to see when the door has been opened by the Lord. Sometimes, He uses circumstances to show that the door is opened. Sometimes, He uses the peace of God to help us know that this door is for our use. Sometimes, He brings to us the wise counsel of other Christians to help us know which door is truly an open door. The Lord does not leave us in the dark or comfortless, for the Spirit is with us to guide us! He will show us the open doors!
Dear friend, is there an open door before you today? Walk through it! Rejoice in it! Exult in your God! Praise His wondrous name that an opportunity has been vouchsafed to your trust. Use it for God and only for His glory. He may do marvelous things, yea, wonders without number! If thou wilt but trust Him, this door may be the door that shall lead to the greatest blessing of God in your life. It may be the door that opens to another door. Thank God for the doors that He opens! Be listening and ready, so that when the door begins to swing open to you, you may be ready to stride through it with humility and gratefulness, for it is all of Him! It shall only open if He opens it, and if He opens, no one can stand against Him.
“Dear Lord, we praise you for the great doors that you have mercifully opened for each of us in our lives. Sometimes we long for an open door and seem to wait interminably for it to open. But help us to have patience, knowing that if we knock, it shall one day be opened unto us if it is in your perfect will. And if not, there shall be a better door opened. Thank you for the ones you have opened, and we pray that we would boldly and obediently walk through them, simply praising you for giving us such a wonderful opportunity. Keep us in a spirit of humility as we obey and follow you. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
