Luke 11:9

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

What a blessed promise beyond compare! Think on it! It is given to us by the very mouth of the Savior! All that is actually needed is to ask! And if we ask, we shall receive! The Lord goes further to say, “Every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” What a glorious consolation! All that must be done is asking, seeking, and knocking, and the Lord shall open wide the door! This comes from the great story related here by our Lord of the man who came to his friend at midnight in search of food. He needed food because his own personal friend had come to him pleading for a few morsels of bread. This first man went to his friend then because he knew his friend had something. The man was first reluctant, but then because of the importunity of the man, he gave all that he needed. Now this is a great picture. For you see, many go to the Lord asking once, and never ask again! They do not seek! They do not continue knocking! Oh, my friend, keep seeking! You will most definitely find! Keep knocking! For you will, of a surety, see the door swing open. If you are not finding these things, it is because you have ceased to ask, seek, and knock.

Now, my beloved, is there something you have asked the Lord for, and have become weary with no answer? Have you felt as though the door was barred, locked, and permission was denied? Perhaps you believe that it is useless to pray. Perhaps you feel an impenetrable barrier between yourself and the answer. Pray again! Seek Him! Do not stop at asking! Search His Word and implore His mind on the matter! Everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving! Bring it to the Lord faithfully every day, expecting an answer! Begin to thank Him now for how He will answer. And then begin to knock on the doors before you. Seek His will first, and as He begins to reveal that will, you will notice doors that can be tried. Knock and knock and knock. Never has the Lord failed in this way. He promised He would give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him. And if such a thing is true, why can He not give us an answer? No doubt He can and will! It is but a light thing for Him. Let us seek Him again, and start praying with importunity. And, my friend, God must answer. He has said He would! And the answer will be better than you hoped, if you will be willing to trust Him! Trust Him now and pray! For every one that asketh receiveth! Ask, and it shall be given you!

“Father, we certainly do not understand all the ways in which you work. But we do know that this promise has been clearly given. It has been unequivocally pronounced, so that we may claim it with our very hearts. Help us now to get back to our knees, and engage once again in faithful, fervent prayer. You have designed it so that we will get an answer if we will just ask, seek, and knock. May every reader who is reading this small treatise today find new answers to all their prayers, as they begin praying anew. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
