The secret things

Deuteronomy 29:29

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

One fact of the universe that is indisputably and indubitably true is the fact of secrets. There are many secret unrevealed and undisclosed about us. What is the way of the eagle in the air? What is the way of a serpent on a rock? And how do we explain the way of a man with a maid? It is inexplicable, except that God has simply made it that way. They are that way because God did it! They are that way because they are divinely designed to function that way. It just is! And there are many secrets about the realm of immortal and spiritual things. What will heaven look like? What will be the likeness of the throne of God? What will it be like to look into the face of our Savior? What will it be like to meet and fellowship with the saints of old? How is God working in your life this day? Much is a mystery. Much is unrevealed. But, dear friend, the Word of God tells us that those things belong unto the Lord our God. They do not belong to us. It is not for us to know every secret, and to uncover every mystery. It must remain unseen, unknown, undiscovered.

But let us pause for a moment to consider the following truth. For the Lord says, “those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever.” This means that the Lord has revealed some things to us, and He has vouchsafed to us truths that the world does not know. For the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. You see, there are many things that are not understood by mankind, but God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. See 1 Corinthians 2. He has revealed to us the deep things of God!What a wonderful privilege! What a glorious honor! For through the Spirit we can know the unsearchable mind of the Lord. We can understand those things which none other understands. They belong unto us! And, moreover, they belong to our children!

Do not be bewildered when others do not understand. Do not despair when others never grasp the concepts that we understand. Do not marvel if the world hate you. Do not be surprised if others think you foolish, ignorant, unlearned. For God has not revealed those things to them. It can only be done through His Spirit. What a glorious verse it is that tells us, “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” See Psalm 25:14. The secret of the Lord! It is with us! He will show us His covenant! Praise God that these things belong unto us and to our children! It is an open secret, for the pages of God’s Holy Word are open for our view, and available for our exploration. May we search out these things today, and may we ask God’s Spirit to show us something today we have never heard and seen before. For the secret of the Lord is with the righteous. These things belong to us.

“Father, how we praise Thee that Thou hast saved certain things for your children alone. You have allowed us to peer into your truth, to see a view of your beauty that others see not. And how we long that they would see it too. May we share it with them, and may the Spirit of God illuminate their understanding that they may be born of God and of His Spirit. Oh may we search His truth today! May we meditate on His secrets. And for the things that the Lord has not revealed to even us His children, let us resign to the truth that these things belong unto the Lord our God, and are not for us to understand yet. One day, by and by, we shall understand. It will belong to us then. But until now, we leave the secret things in the safekeeping of your hand. We thank you for these things.
