Psalm 103:2
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
Time and space would fail us to begin to tell of all the blessings of the Lord. They are infinite. They are abounding. They are overflowing and continuous. And this is a good subject to think on when we are apt to cast our eyes on the little things we lack, or when the cup seems particularly empty. It is a great thought to muse on when we tend to think that God has forsaken us or doesn’t notice our poverty. For see! Our blessings are numberless! Each moment He crowns us with His goodness. I pray you will take the time to read Psalm 103, as it is most surely to help you and remove any doubt whatsoever of His goodness.
But may we dwell on a few things? Forget not all His benefits! Don’t lose sight of His goodness! Don’t let the thought of His blessings be overwhelmed by the thought of any deficit. Do not let the truth of His love and care be overtaken by the present appearance of want. Because all things are still ours! We have Christ! We have His Word, and all things beside! We have benefits without number! Bless the Lord, O my soul! For you see, He healeth thy diseases. How many times have I been saved from a calamitous illness? How many times have I maintained proper health? You say, “I don’t have proper health.” My dear one, how about this wonderful truth: He forgiveth all thine inquities! He crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies! These tender mercies are abundant every day! How forgiving He is! As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us! As a father pitieth His children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him. For He knoweth our frame! He remembereth that we are dust. What goodness! What grace! What love! He is a gracious God, for He is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. As the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him! These are all wonderful spiritual blessings we have in the Lord. These are things we must rejoice in every day. And truth be told, if we considered the import and impact of these things throughout our day, we would perhaps be living in continual ecstasy and perpetual novelty. We must not forget these things! We must not forget His benefits!
And dear friend, you may say, “I know that I have these things, but I am in need of physical provision.” Well, look to Him, because He hath said that He will never leave thee nor forsake thee. He will not forget His own. God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory. For you see, as the psalmist says, “He satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Think on this today? What food do you have to eat? What house do you have to shelter your head? What bed do you have to recline and rest in at night? How much provision do you have before you? He satisfies your mouth daily! For He has said that He would give us “our daily bread.” Look this day for the Lord. Tomorrow will take thought for the things of itself. Lean on His promises for all spiritual and physical blessings and provision. And don’t forget to thank the Lord for every blessing. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits!
“Father, how we want to praise Thee now for Thy love, goodness, and abundant blessings! You have truly crowned us with your lovingkindness and lavished us with your tender mercies. You are a wonderful Lord to us, and have never left us to fend for ourselves. We know that you will not leave us now. We look to Thee. We open our hands and our mouths to Thee, that Thou mayest fill them. Help us now to rejoice in Thy great love and in Thy all-sufficient blessings this day. In Christ Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
