New every morning!

Lamentations 3:22-23

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

This is perhaps one of the most beautiful and encouraging passages in the whole of Scripture. We are all familiar with it, and have read and recited it many a time. But to ponder over it will do us a world of good. To consider these wonderful words of life will give us spiritual health and vitality. Thinking on these powerful truths will forever change us. For His compassions fail not. We may fail Him. And there can be no doubt that we do fail Him often. But He never fails. It is only of His mercies that we are not consumed. His mercies are new every morning!

New every morning! There is no greater word of edification! No greater promise of restoration! No greater hope of a new beginning! Every morning His mercies are new! They are available for our taking day by day. Although yesterday may be filled with fear and failures, today may be full of faith and forgiveness! We can begin each day pure in His sight. We can be washed and cleansed! The slate can be clean, without remembrance of yesterday’s sin. For, we are told, He casts our sins behind His back and buries them in the depths of the sea. Why should we remember that which the Lord has forgotten? Have you gotten forgiveness? Start afresh today. Have you failed to get forgiveness? Then ask for His forgiveness now, for He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Our God is a God of new beginnings. We are not to live on yesterday’s bread, but on today’s provision. We are not to live on the failures of the past, but on the faith of the future. Do not live on yesterday! Do not live on disappointments! Do not live on cheerless and miserable days! For those days are past! The morning has come! And this is a morning full of the goodness and faithfulness of God.

The prophet Jeremiah declares, “Great is Thy faithfulness.” The Lord’s faithfulness never fails. His love endures forever; His mercies are to all generations. Draw on this truth this morning. Have a new beginning with Him, for His mercies are new every morning!

“Father, our hearts are eternally grateful for Thy faithfulness. And it is only through your Son that we can get constant and continual forgiveness. Oh, how we need it, for we fail Thee every day! We walk away from Thee. We forget Thee! Alas, we disobey Thee! But may Thy mercies which are new this day forgive us of every failure and give us a wholly new day, full of your amazing love and goodness and faithfulness. Forgive us, cleanse us, renew us, and restore us this day. We choose, with all of our feeble hearts, to live for Thee this day, drawing upon Thy mercy. We thank Thee for this new day! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
