Job 38:22
Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail?
Job 38 is a series of questions asked by God to Job, a mortal man. It is full of eloquent expressions and lofty descriptions of the earth and of God’s creation. This entire passage, indeed, the entire book of Job may be the most picturesque and magnificent description contained anywhere of the creation of God. It is unfathomable! It is truly indescribable! It it is inexhaustible! God’s creation is inconceivably intricate and amazingly complex, beyond the capacities of the human mind to fully understand.
However, there are a few things that mortal man has discovered. And one fact that is known to all is that there are no two snowflakes alike. The treasures of the snow! It is the beauty of this white wonder! It is one of the single most amazing facts of the world! No two are alike! All are distinct! All are unique! All are special!
But does not this glorious truth pervade all of life, and moreover, all of the universe? For see! All of us are distinct! All of us are unique! All of us are made with characteristics shared by none other! We all have attributes singly owned by ourselves! No two snowflakes are alike! And, just the same, no two men or women are alike. And how we thank our great Creator for His marvelous wisdom. For imagine if such a thing were not true. Imagine if you met your exact match. How terrible that would be! How intolerable life would be! How confusing! But an infinite God with infinite wisdom has deemed us unfit to be alike, and fit to be different. We thank God for the differences, disparities, and deviations between us.
But this is only the surface of all the treasures. For when looking at a snowflake, we may not only tell immediately that it is unique, but any casual glance or cursory view will reveal that the snowflake is a marvelous wonder! It is intricate beyond words! It is complex. It is perfectly patterned. It is carefully manufactured. And so are each of us—perfectly patterned and manufactured for God’s plan to be unfolded. Only when all the snowflakes have fallen do we see the landscape. Oh my friend, only when all has transpired in your life do you see the whole of the picture. And then it will, no doubt, be a canvas of beauty. Wait, dear one, on the Lord, for you are patterned specifically for His purposes. All will be clear one day. And even in the midst of every snow fall, beauty is emerging. So is it in our lives. Let us see the beauty throughout the day and night, as the beautiful picture is painted.
The treasures of the snow! What of God’s Word? Hast thou entered into it? Hast thou plumbed its depths? Hast thou ascertained the vast treasure store of His living Word? Let us enter each day into the treasures of God’s Word. For they are, as the snowflakes are, inexhaustible. Enter today into His treasures! For these treasures are not locked away, or hidden from our sight, or kept from our obtaining; but they are visible, available, and explorable. Enter into His treasures today!
“O Father, how we thank Thee that Thou art inexhaustible. We thank Thee that Thy treasures are unending and abounding. Help us to see your marvelous and unique treasures in others, and help us to find them every day in Thy Word. Thank you for the beauty of your creation and the wonder of your Word. We look to Thee today for the treasures that only come from Thee. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
