2 Timothy 1:12
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
There can be no doubt that we live in a world full of doubt, uncertainty, and insecurity. Many doubt the existence of an all-powerful and all-loving God. Many wonder about their eternal destiny. Many live in great angst on a day-to-day basis worrying of what tomorrow may bring. But the Lord in His mercies and through His divine revelation has eradicated all that for the Christian! He has removed uncertainties! He has jettisoned all doubt! He has erased any semblance of worry! He has made all things plain! He has assured, confirmed, and affirmed our standing with Him, our hope for tomorrow, and our promise of everlasting life!
Dear believer, do not be troubled by worry, for tomorrow shall take thought of the things of itself. Do not concern with possibilities which may produce an unfavorable outcome; do not give in to the scourge of doubt and worry, for we know whom we have believed! Furthermore, we are persuaded that He is able to keep that which we have committed unto Him against that day! Have you committed your life to Him? It is safe in His hand! Have you committed your soul to Him? He is a faithful Creator who will keep it to the end! We are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation! (See 1 Peter 1:1-9).
There is no room for doubt, nor is there space for fear. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear. Yes, my brother, there are some things that have unknown outcomes. Yes, my sister, things could turn to the contrary in a moment’s notice. Yes, dear Christian, you may have trials tomorrow. Paul said “I also suffer these things.” What was he suffering? Persecution, rejection, deprivation, and, moreover, bonds and imprisonment. You may experience any of these things or other things of lesser severity or of worse proportions. But as the apostle said, you know whom you have believed! Your life is anchored in Him! He will take care of you. Don’t be ashamed of it! For you know! For you are certain! For you are persuaded! And, dear friend, what are you persuaded of? That He is able! Able to do all things! Able to keep that which you have committed unto Him! Able to protect you! Able to abide with you! Able to comfort you! Able to guide you! He is able! For you know whom you have believed!
“Dear Father in Heaven, we thank you that our lives are not based on guesses, uncertainties, and faint wishes. But thank you that our lives are anchored in that hope which is both sure and steadfast. Thank you that we have an anchor for our souls. May this day be one of a new beginning, that we may no longer be governed by fear, doubt, and worry in the earthly, weak, and changing times and circumstances in which we live, but may our hope be anchored for ever in Thee. May we live persuaded in Thee. Certain in Thee! Doubtless in Thee! And these things we pray in Christ’s name, and for His sake, Amen.”
