Exodus 14:13 “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.”

One of the most monumental and mighty moments in the whole of Scripture takes place at the Red Sea. The children of Israel have spent many hundreds of years under bondage to the rigorous Egyptians. The Lord with an high hand and a stretched out arm delivered them through mighty wonders in Egypt. But once they have dramatically exited the land of Egypt they are almost immediately faced with a seemingly insurmountable obstacle – a huge body of water lying between them and their destination. They could not progress forward because of this barrier. They were stuck at the sea. But let us not forget, that this was all designed in the plan of the Lord. The Lord did not forget that the sea lie in the midst of the desert, for He created it! He was not surprised or bewildered at this obstacle, for He led them the way of the wilderness! He was not scrambling to find a way of salvation for the Israelites from this quandary, for He told them to “encamp before Pi-hahiroth!” In fact, the Lord said to “encamp by the sea.”

You see, the Lord in His infinite wisdom will lead us on purpose to a place of need, to a place of dependence on Him, to a place that requires us to “cry out unto the Lord” as the Israelites did. He has a solution! He has a plan! He has a purpose for leading us this way! This was not happenstance nor was it chance or accident. It was the divine plan of God! And as the Israelites cried out unto the Lord, the Lord responded by giving Moses a word to the Israelites. Listen to the divine comfort that came forth from Moses’ lips. “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.” They were required to do nothing but stand still! Nothing but watch! Nothing but gaze on the miraculous working of God! Nothing but to just wait and see what the Lord will do!

My friend, it is very difficult for us as humans to let it all go into the hand of God. It is difficult for us to cease from our own works. It is very difficult for us not to calculate our own solutions. It is difficult for us to stand still! But we must do it! Do you want to see His salvation? Do you want His deliverance? Do you want an answer? Do you want a solution? Are you at an insoluble problem? Does it look bleak? Does destruction look imminent? Does danger ominously hang in front of you, ready to pounce? Oh, my friend! Do not fret! Do not despair! But cry out unto the Lord! For He is able to deliver thee! Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show to you to day!

“Dear Father, we thank you that you are able to deliver us in the most impossible situations. We thank you that when things look against us, you are working for us. Help us to believe. Help us to trust. We cry unto you now to deliver us! And as we wait, by Thy grace, we shall stand still, waiting to see the salvation of the Lord. For we trust these things into the hands of your precious Son Jesus, Amen.”
