Luke 8:35
Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Here is the story of the man with the Legion of devils—the man whom the Lord gloriously and miraculously healed. This man was a deranged and wild man. He dwelt in the tombs! He wore no clothes! He was a maniac of the highest degree! He was a terror and a menace to anyone who would ever come near him! No one ever thought that he could be healed, or helped, or bettered under any circumstances. Just as the woman with the issue of blood who touched Jesus on His way to heal Jairus’ daughter was immediately healed of her issue of blood, so this man, who had no prospects of help or hope on the horizon, knew, when He saw Jesus, that something could be done.
“Jesus, thou Son of God most high!” he cried. He knew Jesus was the answer. The woman with the issue of blood knew it. Jairus knew it, and so have an innumerable company of other people known it. They have know that only Jesus could restore their right mind! Only He could heal, cleanse, and restore! And I say to you today, are you troubled in your mind? Is your mind in turmoil? Is it full of anxiety, anger, and fear? Is it anything but right? Is it given to angst and depression? To you, my friend, I say, go to Jesus. Go to Him in prayer. Sit at his feet, as this man did. It is only when you come near to the Savior that you will find the peace and calmness that your mind needs. Just as the disciples felt the calm on the Sea of Galilee when Christ stilled the wind and the waves, so His presence can be the one source and the one force that brings serenity and peace. Yes, even in the mind! Do you know that God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind? Do you need a sound mind? Come to Jesus! He will help you, when your mind is stayed and anchored and fixated on him, to be sound. You can have a right mind!
“Oh, dear Lord, there are many a day when our minds do not seem right! And we pray, Lord, that we would not give in to the troubles. May we directly and quickly make a dash for the Savior. Let us enter and linger in His presence throughout the day, imbibing His peace that is given to those who stay there. Help us to abide under the shadow of the Almighty, and by the side of the Savior. And we trust that You shall calm and still and make right all the troubled thoughts of our minds. And these things we pray and trust in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
