Matthew 6:34

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Take therefore no thought! No thought! This is a clear command, yet practiced by very few. Here we are commanded by Christ not to concern and encumber ourselves with worries about what tomorrow may bring. We are not to worry about what we shall eat, because He feeds the fowls of the air. We are not to concern with whether or not we shall have raiment to put on, for He clothes the grass of the field. We are told to consider the fowls, the ravens, and the lilies, which prepare nothing in advance for themselves, and yet have all their needed victuals and provisions. This is not to say we walk mindlessly and aimlessly and thoughtlessly from day to day, for that would be someone who never counts the cost. But we are never to allow worry or care to enter our minds in these things, but rather we are to seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness. And then, all these things shall be added unto us. God shall give us all the temporal things that we need so long as we are more concerned with the eternal things.

Take no thought for the morrow! Tomorrow is heavy enough and full enough and encumbered enough. There is no sense in adding to this day the things that can only be dealt with tomorrow. Some are so concerned with tomorrow, that they miss the greatest and most divine blessings that are in this very day that we are in. Fear and anxiety will cripple your heart and mind. Tomorrow must be given to the Lord. And today must also be given to the Lord. The morrow shall take thought for the things of itself! Concern yourself with today, and do not miss all He has for you this day! Because sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Dear friend, is there something concerning you about the things of tomorrow? Is there something weighing down your mind, keeping you from entering tomorrow in faith and hope? Are their hindrances to the peace of God ruling in your heart? Let the peace of God have rule and authority and control! But this will happen only as we leave all the temporal things of today and tomorrow and the next in the hands of an all-wise God who always gives the greatest gifts. He will treat us as a father would treat his most loved son. He will not give us less valuable things than we ask, but as we ask, He shall give good things to them that ask Him. Leave it all in His hands, and seek His ways first, and everything else shall fall into place.

“Father, we thank Thee that Thou art such a loving and gracious Father to us. We can always trust that You will take care of the morrow. It shall take thought for itself when it comes. But You are the God of the past, the present, and the future. This means that you are already standing in our tomorrow, preparing it for our entry. May we leave all of our cares with Thee. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.”
