Psalm 118:23
This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
We all do things, and we all strive to effect things according to our will. We seek to accomplish certain tasks, and complete certain jobs. We labor, we work, and we put our hands to the plough. And we should! We should diligently and faithfully accomplish tasks each day. We should at least be known as people who work. For, as the apostle says, if any will not work, neither should he eat. But this verse speaks of those things that the Lord does. The Lord’s doing! What He accomplishes among us! What He brings to pass before our very eyes! His works! His hand! The things that are evidently orchestrated by Him and divinely aligned! Those, my friend, are the Lord’s doings.
And they are marvelous in our eyes! It is not by might, nor by power. It is only by His Spirit that these things can come to be. And when they happen, they are marvelous. They cause us to marvel. They cause us to recognize that it is only from Him—that only He could accomplish the works before us. We therefore worship and glorify Him and rejoice in the works of His hands. And I say, to all my beloved, are you seeking to get something done? Seek it not in your strength, wisdom, or power. For that is not in you. It must be the Lord’s doing. Just wait on Him. Pray, seek His face, and wait. For you will be surprised! You will be elated and overjoyed when you see His works laid out before you! You shall be amazed at the alignment and the perfection of all His works. You will say, with the psalmist, that it is the Lord’s doing. And you will say that it is marvelous in our eyes.
“Dear Lord, we come to you this day knowing that there are a thousand million things that we could never do ourselves. We are in desperate need of your wisdom and power so that all things may be accomplished as they should be. Help us now, we pray, to lean on the Lord in all things, waiting on your hand to guide, and your will to be made known. And we are sure it will be marvelous in our eyes. We don’t want it to be our work; rather, we want it to be your doing. We submit to you in this. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
