Haggai 2:7

And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

The might and power of the Lord are evidently set forth in this verse. For He truly has shaken the nations, and will shake the nations. Yet once more, the promise says, He will shake not earth only, but also heaven. He will return in clouds of glory, and will shake all the elements. They shall tremble in fear as He steps onto the clouds and splits open the sky. The heaven shall depart as a scroll when it is rolled together. And He shall come in power and great glory. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty! Jesus Christ Himself, who entered Jerusalem on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass, shall re-enter, and this time as the coming King. He is the one for whom the whole world has longed. He is the desire of nations! The desire of nations that came to the earth two thousand years ago, in the humble stable in Bethlehem, born to a humble virgin, born in humble human flesh. He is the desire of nations!

And this Desire of nations shall come again soon! And every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. But He is the One who was promised—the One that Israel and the whole world waited for. And He should be our desire also. He should be the chiefest desire of our hearts, and the satisfaction and gratification of our needs and longings. For He truly is the Messiah, the Savior of the world. But may I contend something further? This whole world is longing for the desire even now. Even if they are not aware, not cognizant of it, but ignorant of it, they all have a desire. Jew and Gentile alike! There is a desire of all nations! It is the desire to be saved, to be forgiven, to be healed, and to be redeemed. Christ is the realization of this. But how shall they hear without a preacher? The people of God must go to every nation, tribe, and tongue, preaching the everlasting gospel to those who will hear. For Christ is the Desire of all nations.

Dear friends, during this truly wonderful time of the year, let our eyes not be on little, insignificant, temporal desires—desires that are not ultimately fulfilled here, but are only eased and momentarily satisfied. No, dear friend, there is a much greater and transcendent desire, a desire only One can fulfill. And that is the precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the Desire. Everyone needs to find Him. Everyone needs to know Him. He will give you peace, calmness, and new joy if you will find Him to be your all in all. May the Desire of nations fill every heart this morning, and fulfill the hope and longing of all people.

“Dear Lord in Heaven, thank you for being the fulfillment of every desire. You, the Savior, are all that this world needs. You embodied every good thing lacking, and every precious thing wanting. You are the Redeemer, the Savior, and the source and fountain of joy and peace. May we come to you this day for all these things, and may many others come to the realization and gratification of all their desire also. And we shall praise you for all these things. In Jesus’ wonderful name, Amen.”
