Habakkuk 3:2

O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

This is the cry of every believer and of every saint. Revive Thy work! Breathe new life into your lifeless people! Revitalize and rejuvenate and reinvigorate your work that has been lying dormant for so long! Just thinking of the Lord and His greatness and grandeur as aptly described by Habakkuk brings a reverential and a healthy fear. But this fear births new faith in us, because we know that the great God that came from Teman, and the Holy One that came from Mount Paran in the days of the wanderings of the children of Israel is still able today to do a mighty work! In the midst of the years make known, the prophet prays. When things seem to be degraded and demoted and demeaned to dismal destruction, we can still look to the One who, in the midst of all that, can bring new life. In the midst of the years, we need the Lord to work again supernaturally and beyond the effort or expectation of any man.

In wrath remember mercy! Here, the prophet beseeches and implores and begs the Lord to remember mercy even though his beloved people have wandered and disobeyed and backslidden and turned the back instead of the face. Their whole foundation that was once in the Lord had been shattered, and now it looked beyond repair. But let me remind you today, that with God’s mercy, it is never too late to raise up again the old foundations, the places of ancient times. It can be restored! But the Lord Himself must work! The Lord Himself must supernaturally bring this change about. The Lord must remember mercy! Have there not been many who have been saved from the worst and most dissolute and ungodly life to a life a holiness and peace with the Lord? We have all heard stories such as this, and we have seen them in the Word of God, from Mary Magdalene to Zacchaeus to Paul to Rahab and to many others whose lives have been a picture of God’s grace. Cannot God do the same for a nation and for a people?

Brother or sister, I hope you will take a moment to pray for a revival of God’s people, and for the salvation of a nation. Pray for mercy on those who are walking ignorant of the love and grace of God. Pray for the dear ones that need a plenteous helping of that mercy. Did you not once need that? And do you not need His new mercies every day? Perhaps God’s work needs to be revived in you this morning. Ask the Lord to revive His work in you! That in the midst of the years, His work and His Word and His truth and His ways may be abundantly made known through you. Let us ask the Lord to remember mercy this day!

“Dear Father, we are pleading with you for one thing today, and that is mercy. You have shown mercy to your people time and time again, and to each of our individual lives. How could we praise you fully for this? Your mercy has been marvelous and magnificent. And now we pray that in the midst of the years, you would remember this same mercy that your people need again. Revive Thy work! And make Thyself known to all! Revive this nation, and revive your people here. And, even in this moment, revive me! And in your kindness and grace, may you bestow this revival on our loved ones. And we look forward to the great and Divine work that you will do. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
