Nahum 1:7

The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

On this week of Thanksgiving, it is customary to take a moment and express gratitude for the blessings of life. But to whom are we grateful? From where do these blessings originate? Who is the object of our thanksgiving? It is none other but the Lord Himself. For the Lord is good! His kindness and grace and benevolence toward His people is abundantly and universally evident. The Lord is good! But here we have listed for us certain things concerning the goodness of God. He is a strong hold in the day of trouble. A strong hold is a fortress, a refuge, and a place of safety and security. Thither we may flee when the way is rough and the pathway clouded with troubles. The Lord is that strong hold. None other is like Him. All others are only temporarily sufficient, but do not withstand all the storm and tempest. But the Lord is stronger than them all! Make Him your strong hold in the day of trouble!

And He knoweth them that trust in Him. Praise the Lord that He knows those who are His. He knows them through and through; He knows their hearts and their minds and their emotions and their will. He knows them deeply and intimately even if they are not aware. For we may become somewhat distant, but it is only us who have moved. He has never moved; He has never changed. He knows everything about you. Have you considered that He knows your trials? Therefore, you have no cause for worry or concern. Have you considered that He knows every heartache and loss? Therefore, we can rest in His comfort and strength. Have you considered that He knows all that others have said and have done? Therefore, there is no need for you to balance the scales. The Lord has confined that responsibility to Himself. He knows you! Rest in this today.

Dear friend, I know not who is reading this today. But there are, no doubt, many troubling things that you have encountered or may currently be traversing through. I want to bring encouragement to you. Just remember that the Lord knows them that are His, and He is well acquainted with those that trust in Him. He knows it all, and He is to be to you a fortress and a refuge from the battery of the storms. He knows you, therefore we can say with the psalmist, “The Lord is good!”

“Father, we acknowledge your great goodness this day. All good things are from Thee. And how we praise you, Lord. But we especially praise you this day that you are a strong hold for us, and that you know every one of us who trust in you. We trust in you at this time for all things, because we know we can trust your goodness. There is none good but one, that is, God! And we rejoice in this today. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
