Micah 2:7

O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?

God spoke over and over again to the house of Israel. He sought to procure their attention through many a prophet, and through many a man of God. Seers were sent to give them the word of the Lord, and to warn them, to speak to them, and to call them back to God. But Israel was often obstinate in their own way. And are we not the same way, even as God speaks over and over again to us? But our disobedience does not straiten Him. That is to say, He is still able. He is still greater. And He is still our God. He will continue to work. And He will continue to work in a nation that turns from Him time and again, just like Israel did. The Spirit of the Lord is not straitened!

And then, God asked this question through Micah: are these his doings? We must come to recognize that the things we see about us our the very doings of the Lord. I recently spoke to a man who thought it was hard to believe that God would put evil men in power. Yes, for us, it is difficult to swallow this. But you see, my friend! It is all the doings of the Lord! He is seeking to gain the attention of His own people. Will we just sit back and watch the destruction of others as a spectator in the stands, or will we begin to pray and seek the Lord, asking Him to work through these things to bring His people back to Himself? For we must acknowledge in our lives, and in the lives of others, and in the life of this nation, it is all the Lord’s doings. He is working, He is moving, and what marvelous works He would like to do, if we would not resist His hand! Then, we could say, “This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes!”

You see, for everyone who is godly; for everyone who is listening; and for all who are willing to see the Lord’s hand in it all, they will derive help and comfort and peace from the words of the Lord. For the Lord says here, “Do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?” There is nothing that does greater good for us than the very words of the Lord. Do not be discouraged with all that takes place about you, but find strength from His words. They always do good for him that walks uprightly. God’s words will always do good for you. Look to the Lord and His words today, trust His doings, and seek Him on behalf of this nation, of others, and of your own life. For the Spirit of the Lord is not straitened. He can do all things.

“Father, thank you for this great and wonderful reminder that you are never limited, bounded, or constrained. You are not straitened! These are all your doings. Help us to remember this, and trust your working. We want to see you do marvelous things, and we know that you are most certainly able. You are already doing marvelous things. May we continue to listen to your words of life, because they always do good for us. If we are looking anywhere else for help and comfort, please forgive us, and help us turn back to Thee! Thy words are life and help and strength. And we praise you for this. We trust your mighty and unlimited and infinite power. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
