Amos 3:7

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

The Lord had worked and had spoken and had dealt with His people from the beginning. He had sought to bring them back, to warn them, and to keep them from evil, but they had often rebelled and resisted His will. He was, however, quite compassionate towards them, and patient. He sent them the prophets, rising early and sending, but often they would not hear. And the most dreadful statement, perhaps, that He said through His prophets, was this—that the Lord God would do nothing. Nothing! He would give up, and leave them to themselves. No one ever wants to be in this predicament. It is a most terrible plight. We want the Lord always to be working! Never to stop working. But there is one hope even when this happens. And that is that He revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Praise God for this! When the nation is gone; when the people are seemingly gone, there are still the servants of God listening to Him!

He revealeth His secret! He vouchsafes to the men and women of God what is the way back. He gives them the answer. He whispers in their ears and in their hearts what the nation is to do, and what the people are to respond. He shows them how to turn back to God. Those who are listening can hear the secret. They will be the ones through whom change will be effected. And when the Lord speaks to them, who will not fear? And when the Lord has spoken, who can but prophesy? Who can keep it to themselves, when the Lord has given the answer? How can we stand still and do nothing, when we have the truth in the pages of God’s Word? The answer is always there. The way back is always clear and visible if we’ll just read what He has already said so many centuries ago.

Dear friends, it is not time to be silent or to cower into our dens, but it is time that we must, in His power, speak His Word. For He has given to us the secret. Let us not be part of the problem, but let us be the solution. May God raise up a host of men and women who will stand up and speak when the opportunity is given for God’s Word and God’s truth. For He revealeth His secret to us!

“Father, how we praise you, O God, for this wonderful truth. Thank you that you have revealed to us that which this nation needs. May we not lock it away in the recesses of our hearts and lives, but let us stand forth with power and boldness. For there is only one way back to you, and it is the way that leads back to that which the Word of the living God has already spoken. We praise you that the open secret is before us, if we will hear. May your servants be listening, and may they speak on your behalf. And we shall praise you for these things. In Jesus’ wonderful name, Amen.”
