Joel 1:3

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

There is nothing more important in this whole wide world than bequeathing the truth that we have inherited to the next generation. If we do not, these things shall be forever lost! They shall be forgotten, hid from the mind, lost from the memory. And this truly would be the greatest of all tragedies—the tragedy of forgetting the goodness of God. Is this not the one factor that has destroyed nations time and time again? Is this not the beginning of sorrows, when a nation forgets that they are under God, and begins instead to look to progressive and new ways? They have forgotten the old paths that founded them. They have forgotten what has commenced their existence and has birthed them at the start. May God deliver us from this! But how does a nation keep from forgetting the goodness of God? It must be done on an individual level. The fathers and mothers of the land must teach the children of the land what they have seen. Because if the oral tradition is not handed down, other things will rush in to fill the vacuum.

Tell ye your children of it! We must faithfully do this! We must recognize the importance of this to the preservation of this nation and to the preservation of our faith. Is faith not passed down the same way? Paul speaks to Timothy of “the unfeigned faith that dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded in thee also.” From the very beginning of time, God exhorted His people to “teach them diligently unto their children.” God knew that otherwise they were in great peril and jeopardy. Only fathers and mothers can prevent God’s ways from being forgotten. Let us pass them on to all the children, that they may tell their children, and their children another generation! Our children will then tell their children and it will continue on. Let us see how immensely vital this is, and may God’s truth be preserved to this next generation!

“Father, we thank you for the truth that we have graciously been given. We know that it has been preserved through your holy Word, but we also know that others have passed it down to us. Let us now be faithful to pass it to those who come after us. And, whatever our arena of influence may be, help us to use it to point those after us to your eternal truth. And we trust you to work through each of us to this end. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
