Hosea 1:10

“…and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.”

Israel has an extremely varied history. At many times they wandered, and became the subjects of God’s displeasure and wrath. But He has always promised that in the end He would have mercy on them. They who once were His people shall always be His people, and although they despised the title by their actions, the Lord Himself shall restore them to sonship again. One day, they shall have one head, and that head will be the Lord Jesus Christ. He will save His people.

But think of the others! Think of those who were not His people! Does not Paul speak of them in this light? The Gentiles, the heathen, those estranged from God, those who were never considered the apple of His eye. They shall be called the children of the living God! This is our privilege! This is our calling! Those who never were a people are now a people. Those who never were the children of God now enjoy the position of sons and daughters. This is what Christ hath done, for He hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.

We are the sons of the living God! How is this so? Only through Christ is this possible, for as many as receive Him, to them He gives power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. We have the power when we believe in Christ to be a child of God. Think of it now! Behold what manner of love…that we should be called the sons of God! The sons of God! We are in His hand—forever His. We belong to Him, and He belongs to us. We are His children, therefore all in the Father’s House shall be ours by inheritance. Because we are children, we are heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ! What a calling and what a great honor! Let us live now this day, let us speak, and let us act as a son of God should act. Let others see the actions of the sons and daughters of God, and thereby glorify our Father which is in Heaven.

“Now, Father, we praise you eternally that we can be called the children of the living God. There is truly no privilege greater than this. May our lives reflect that designation, and may our actions lead others to see that we are yours. May our words and our spirit be in accordance with who we are by inheritance. We are your children and the children of the day, not of the night nor of darkness. For your glory, may others see that in us this very day. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
