Joel 2:21
Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.
This is a wonderful promise that was conveyed on the children of Israel. God, in the end, would bring back their captivity, would save the remnant, and restore them to a glorious state. In the end of the world, He will once again bring them to glory among the nations and will rule from Jerusalem. But before that day would come, He promised that He would “restore the years that the locust hath eaten.” What a wondrous thought that God can bring something back to a beautiful state that has been destroyed. Havoc has been wreaked, but it is not beyond repair. The locust, the palmerworm, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar have all eaten up the good blessings of God. And sometimes, the Lord sends this great army to bring us back to Him. But here we have a promise that He is not finished, but will restore that which has been lost.
Is there something you have lost? Is there something that has been destroyed, or a life you know that has been dismantled. Have you seen the devil wreak havoc, as you stand by without the ability to stop his evil rampage? Dear friend, the Lord is giving you an encouraging word today—that He can still do great things! “Fear not!” He says. “O land, be glad and rejoice!” God can do this for the whole nation! And we will rejoice and praise Him! But how He can do this on an individual level as well! Be glad and rejoice, brother or sister, for the Lord will do great things! Keep trusting! Keep believing! Believe not that it is over, but that this is only the beginning of the renewal and restoration that He plans to do. Be glad and rejoice this morning, for the Lord will still do great things!
“Father, we thank you for giving us promises in your Word, that, although originally given to people thousands of years ago, and living thousands of miles from where we happen to be, are still exceedingly helpful to the people of God today. May we believe in the promise contained here. You have a restoring work to do. May we trust fully in you. May we fear not! May we be glad this day and rejoice, for you have given us this still small voice to revive and reinvigorate our hope. You have resurrected the slumbering joy that we once had, as we look to this most glorious promise. You will do great things! Do them today, we pray! And if not, very soon! And we shall praise you for these things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
