Daniel 9:9

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him.

What a most wonderful verse is before us! It is a verse of healing and hope, a promise of peace and pardon, and of forbearance and forgiveness. O Lord, how we praise you that we have this great promise! To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgiveness! He has always been a God of forgiveness. He forgave His people as they sinned and rebelled against Him constantly, and He forgave many others, as Nineveh, a land of heathen and Gentile people. And does not the Lord do the same today? Yes, by all means, He shall bestow mercy and forgiveness on those who turn to Him in repentance. We may have confusion of face, as we see today in this land, but the Lord will hear our supplications, though we have sinned and rebelled against Him. We certainly have sinned! We certainly have rebelled! But where are the people of God who will come to Him in prayer and supplication and fasting, and who will seek His face for their nation?

For you see! God can forgive! Mercy and forgiveness are a part of His character and nature. He delighteth in mercy! He is a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness. This is our God! He will forgive. But further, He will forgive individuals. I have heard of those who think their sins are greater than God can forgive. Now, this is a great insult to God’s character. Do we believe that He cannot forgive our sin? Are we stronger than He? He can forgive! He is full of mercy and forgiveness! You must only ask. Does He not tell us in the first epistle of John that “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin?” The blood of Christ! It cleanses from all sin! There is no sin beyond His power to cleanse! Do not doubt His power! Come to Him this day, and confess your sins, for He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He can forgive, and He will, if we’ll bring our supplication before Him. And, dear Christian, be encouraged that His blood covers all your sins. Have you any sin? Confess it and forsake it, for you shall then have mercy. He is ready to forgive and pardon. How glorious it is that He is a God of mercies and forgiveness!

“Father, we thank you that you are a God of mercy. We can always have forgiveness with you. We must come to faith in Christ by receiving your forgiveness for all our sins. So, every day, as sin appears again, and rears its most ugly head, we can have it forgiven immediately. Thank you that the blood of Jesus Christ your Son cleanses us from all sin. Even when we rebel, we can be forgiven. This morning, we rejoice in this, and we thank you for it. In Christ Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
