Zechariah 4:10a

For who hath despised the day of small things?

The Lord God of Heaven delights in using small things. Our estimations are only human in their assumptions. We think big things are bigger than small things. But who says? Does not God say that He uses “the weak things of the world to confound the mighty.” And “the things which are not, to bring to nought things that are?” This is the method of the Lord. He chooses that which is little, despised, and considered insignificant. The things God uses begin as that which is little esteemed of men. For that which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination to the Lord. Who hath despised the day of small things?

You see, this is why the Lord said through Zechariah, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” If the Spirit of God does not direct it, it shall fail! It shall come to naught! But if God’s Spirit is in it, there shall be success! That which is small shall become great! And they shall know that the Lord hath sent us! God uses the small things. Anything, when in His hand, may become a great thing. Do not despise small things. Do not despise the people that the world despises. Look on them with a special respect, for they may be the ones that the Lord will use. Do not look through the eyes of the world. Cease from viewing others through the world’s lens. For you see, God loves small things. The very things that seem most insignificant, to the eyes of faith, are significant. For those who discern God’s working, that which is small will be seen as great.

Perhaps, dear brother or sister, you have viewed yourself as small and insignificant. That is a great place of humility to start with! But do not continue to believe that God will not use you because you are small. The very fact that you are small may be the reason God uses you. Remember that it is never by might or by power. It is only by His Spirit, saith the Lord. Do not despise the little things. When in the hand of God, it is great. Small things are big things to Him.

Ms. Kittie Suffield will help us here:

Little is much when God is in it,

Labor not for wealth or fame;

There’s a crown, and you can win it,

If you go in Jesus’ name.

“Father, we thank you that no matter how small we are, you are great and can do great things through us when yielded to you. Help us never to see others as big or small. Let us always to be small in our own sight, but let us see that with God, small things become great. Let us recognize your working in the small things. Use us we pray, as vessels in your hands. And we ask these things humbly in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
