Revelation 10:7
But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
In the book of Revelation, we see many judgements poured out upon men, and many cataclysmic events that shall forever alter the world and those therein. In fact, the earth itself shall be done away with, being dissolved and melted with fervent heat. But here, we find all the earth being punished for its wickedness, and that angles are being sent forth by God to execute those judgments. There are seven angels which sound seven trumpets, and upon the sound of those trumpets, judgments are poured forth. The sixth angel has already sounded, and when he sounded an army of two hundred million horsemen is released, and the third part of men are killed by the fire, the smoke, and the brimstone that proceeds out of their mouths. And we are told that one more angel has yet to sound, before the mystery of God should be finished. There is a plan, and there is an end to the plan. The Lord has a purpose in all of His workings to bring men to Himself. He is working around the world through these judgments to bring many to repentance. Many will be stubborn, obstinate, rebellious. Their obdurate hearts will not bend to God. They will continue in their sins. And this is the most tragic thing of all.
The mystery of God shall be finished! There are many mysteries laid out in God’s Word. Some are revealed in Christ, some are unraveled for us, that we may understand those mysteries. Some are kept secret, locked up until the end. Some are now understandable through the lens of Scripture; some remain yet inscrutable, unable to be grasped. But one day all the mysteries shall be finished and made clear! Often, we scratch the top of our heads, seeking to understand those things that are beyond our intellect. We want to know why God has done all that He has done! Let me tell you, dear friend, the mystery is not yet finished! It will be one day, but not yet.
Brother or sister, there may continue to be many things that you are not able to understand. Things that have not been spelled out, puzzles that are always puzzling. But remember, it is called “the mystery of God.” God is beyond our fathomability. He is immense, unsearchable! And how little is heard of Him! Our breadth of knowledge is minuscule, tiny, infinitesimal! We do not know all the mystery! And let us leave that mystery in the hands of God, knowing that when it is finished, we shall know. You see, Christ said on the cross, “It is finished.” But He meant that the work of salvation is finished. Not everything else is finished. Many mysteries have yet to be disclosed. And until those things are revealed, walk in the light that you have, and trust that one day all shall be made plain. And what a heavenly day that will be! A lovely day of eternal clarity! Then shall we understand.
Maxwell N. Cornelius said it best:
Not now, but in the coming years,
It may be in the better land,
We’ll read the meaning of our tears,
And there, some time, we’ll understand.
Then trust in God thro’ all the days;
Fear not, for He doth hold thy hand;
Though dark thy way, still sing and praise,
Some time, some time, we’ll understand.
We’ll catch the broken thread again,
And finish what we here began;
Heav’n will the mysteries explain,
And then, ah, then, we’ll understand
We’ll know why clouds instead of sun
Were over many a cherished plan;
Why song has ceased when scarce begun;
‘Tis there, some time, we’ll understand.
God knows the way, He holds the key,
He guides us with unerring hand;
Some time with tearless eyes we’ll see;
Yes, there, up there, we’ll understand.
“Dear Heavenly Father, our hearts are immensely helped this day as we gaze upon the mysteries of God. Many we do not now understand, but we shall in the coming years. Help us now to trust in Thine unerring hand, that we may be guided from this world to the world to come, which shall be clear as noonday. Therefore, we trust Thee for all things. And our hearts long for that day when all mysteries shall be no more mysteries, but crystal clarity. And we shall glorify you now and in that day. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
