Acts 27:25
Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.
Acts 27 gives us the account of Paul’s journey to Rome, in order that he may stand before Caesar Augustus. When heard by Festus and Agrippa, he had appealed to the emperor. But his trip to Rome was no uneventful trip. It was not without harm and loss, and was not an easy journey. As he was placed into a ship heading to Rome, they encountered great storms and winds. One Euroclydon, a great storm, came upon them, and almost claimed their lives. But the Lord stood by Paul that night, and told him that he must be brought before Caesar, and that God had given him all that were in the ship! They would all arrive to Rome safely, but would be cast on an island, and have a precarious trek to land.
When Paul stood before the men of the ship the next day and recounted what the Lord had told him, he reassured them that he remained confident in the promise of God. I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me! No matter how it may look right now! No matter what tempest may lay upon us, I believe in Him, that He shall effect that which He promised! And is not this always true? Stormy winds are apt to throng us at times, and toss us around, but we may be sure that God’s promises are utterly true. When He promises that He won’t leave us, and when He declares that all will work together for good, we can place all of our confidence there! We must believe God! In every trial, we must believe God! In every uncertainty, we must believe God! In every midnight moment, our faith must be renewed in the One who stands by us. It is He to whom we belong and whom we serve. He will be with us. Let us believe God!
“Dear Lord, there are many days that we find it harder to believe than others. We are not sure of the outcome or of tomorrow. We do not know how all things will come to pass. But may we never waver from our belief in the One who always stands by us. In the face of the storm, and in the midst of the tempest, let us say with Paul, “I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me!” For you are with us. And we praise you wholeheartedly for this. In Christ Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
