2 Corinthians 9:6

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

There is a universal law with which most of us are keenly familiar. It is the law of sowing and reaping. Does not the Lord say, “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”? It is true, and cannot be controverted or reversed. It is of ubiquitous application. It will hold true as long as the sun and moon shall endure. And here it is applied to our giving. We must give ourselves first to the Lord, and then unto others by the will of God. And our giving is to be as we have purposed in our heart. This means we do not give by compulsion or coercion. The Lord does not expressly require that you give a certain amount to obtain favor from Him. We are to give from the heart. We should not give grudgingly, or of necessity, for God loveth a cheerful giver. If you cannot do it cheerfully, do not do it! If something cannot be done with a smiling face and a joyful heart, it shall not be accepted. For then it is only of necessity, and not of the heart. Now, although the Lord does not expressly require that we give a certain amount, He does inform us of this great truth—that we shall reap according to how we have sown. There shall be an equal proportion. We shall not sow good wheat, and reap tares. We shall not sow good grapes, and receive wild grapes in return. In the same principle, we shall not sow that which is evil and fleshly and reap that which is good and spiritual. We shall reap what we sow. And here we are taught that we shall reap as we sow.

For, he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly. If we give little, we shall see little blessings. If we hold back that which could be given to God, the blessings of God shall be holden back. But, on the contrary, he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. What a most wonderful principle this is! The principle of equation, the principle of proportion. If we give bountifully, God Himself shall bless bountifully. If we give ourselves to Him, we shall be blessed beyond our expectations. Therefore, we should not reserve anything for ourselves. We should not think that if we give things up, we shall never see the blessings again. Nay, we shall see greater blessings! If we sow bountifully, we shall reap also bountifully! Let us sow bountifully in God’s work!

Dear friend, let us ask the Lord today that He may help us to liberally and bountifully sow towards the things of God, knowing that the blessings shall be untold. How may you continue to sow today? How may you sow more bountifully? For if you do, you shall reap bountifully.

“Father, we praise Thee for the promises of Thy Word. May we sow bountifully this day for your glory, knowing that we shall see bountiful blessings. Help us never to keep back what we could give to Thee. For that would be a grave mistake, and will stem the blessings that could otherwise be unleashed upon our lives. May we not miss the blessing of God! Help us to give all to Thee with a cheerful heart! And we shall praise Thee for all these things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
