1 Corinthians 6:19-20

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

The greatest and dearest and highest price that has ever been paid is the price paid by our Savior to purchase our souls. We are bought with a price! And because we are bought with a price, we ought to glorify God in our body and in our spirit, for they belong to Him. Always remember, dear Christian, you do not belong to anyone but the Lord. You do not belong to yourself! And therefore you have no jurisdiction or prerogative to use your body as you chose or to conduct your spirit as you wish. For these things have been purchased with the precious blood of Christ. Ownership has been transferred from you to Him. There is no possession of it left in your hands.

And here, the Lord depicts the gravity of this by telling us that our bodies are His temple. They are the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you. You have the Spirit of God in you as a Christian. What a grave thing this truth is! How wonderful! How amazing! That the Lord would tabernacle within us! He would live in our body. And the Holy Spirit of God is the way in which the Lord has chosen to live in us. Therefore, the temple of God should never be defiled, abused, misused, or used for wrong and evil proposes. We should not make the members of Christ the members of an harlot! We should not go a whoring from the Lord by desecrating His holy temple. Have we forgotten this? Have we forgotten to take care of the temple? Have we forgotten that it is the very abode of the Spirit of God?

My dear brother or sister, how have you used the temple of God? What are you allowing to enter the temple of God? What are you seeing that brings light or darkness into the temple? What are you doing that either taints the holiness of the temple, or augments the godliness of it? What are you taking in? What are you putting in? How is the mouth being used? The ears? The mind? The heart? It is all God’s temple! Oh, may God help us this day to honor the temple of God with our actions, our words, and our thoughts!

“Dear Lord, we thank you that by your grace, you have chosen to dwell in us. It is an amazing thought, and we are forever grateful that you would make us your home and your dwelling. We pray that all that we do with this body would be pleasing to you, and all would bring glory and honor to the one who lives in us, because we are yours. May we glorify God in our body and in our spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
