Galatians 4:7
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
The most marvelous and most exceedingly delightful truth found in Scripture may be the one contained here. Look! See! We are heirs of God through Christ. God is our Father, for we have received the adoption of sons. And because we are children of God, we have been made brethren of our Lord Jesus. And thereby, we have been made heirs through Christ. We are not servants, but sons. Through believing in His Son, we are His children, and we cry “Abba, Father.” This is an endearing address to a loving Father from His loving child.
God has sent forth into our hearts the Spirit of His Son, and that Spirit loves the Father, and looks to the Father. He has made sure we would be heirs of all the inheritance that God has given His only begotten Son. We have all that Christ has. We possess all things through Him! We are joint-heirs with Christ! There is nothing we do not own. We have received every bit of the riches of God through the means of His precious Son, when we became brethren to Christ, and children of God.
Now, my friend, think on this today. Think that you are adopted! Think that you are an heir! You have all the rights and privileges of a son of God! And this has been purchased through Christ. He has done this, and has bought us for His very own. We are heirs! Let us behave as owners, for owners we are. Why should we care for the things of this world, the weak and beggarly elements? Why should we be under bondage, when Christ hath made us free? Let us not be entangled again. Remember this day, beloved, that you are a son, an heir, and a possessor of all things. Through the beloved Son of God, the inheritance is ours. Let us praise Him this day, and care about none other but the spiritual inheritance that we have in Christ. Why should other things matter so? For we are an heir of God through Christ!
“Father, we thank you that, through Christ, we can say, Abba, Father. We have been made an heir of all things, having been adopted into your family. Today, we want to praise you for this inheritance, and we ask that we would not desire earthly inheritance more than heavenly inheritance, but that we would be made conscious this day of what we truly have in Christ. Make us aware of the position we have as children of God and brethren to Christ. May other things be lesser to us, and this be the theme of our song. Thank you for making us heirs. And we pray in Christ’s name and for His sake, Amen.”
