The victory that overcometh the world

1 John 5:4

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

All of us understand how wicked the world is. The whole world lieth in wickedness, as the Scriptures here tell us. It is an evil, diabolical scheme invented by the devil. He is the god of this world. But you must see today, that if you are born of God, which means you are born again of the Spirit of God, and have been made a child of God, then you may overcome this world. Is that not a most wonderful concept? Is it not of great value and of great exultation just to consider that we are not subject to the evil of this world. The devil is not our father. We have another Father, to whom the devil must do obeisance, and to whom he is subject. If we are born of God, then we have victory over this world! Victory! We have victory to overcome this world!

Now, how will we have such great victory? The answer has been unequivocally given to us. Our faith is the victory. And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. It is our faith! It is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ! Verse 5 asks, “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” Those that believe may overcome. Those that have faith overcome the world. The only way for a person to conquer passion, lust, sin, greed, and the like is to believe. It is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. He is the conqueror. We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us! Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! The victory is in Him! And that victory is our faith.

Dear friend, how is your faith today? It must be anchored in Christ. It must be fully in Him if it is to conquer this world. You may only conquer through faith. Faith is the victory. If there is a struggle, or a battle, or a war, the only way to have the victory is through faith. The only pathway to conquering is through our faith in Christ. Let us pray, “Lord, increase our faith!” We may see victories in our lives and in the lives of others through our faith. Faith in Christ is the answer. It is the answer for the unsaved, and it is the answer for the saved. If we are saved by faith, we must live by faith. Let us live by faith today, that we may conquer, and that we may overcome the world!

“Dear Lord, we praise you that you have already conquered for us. May we place all our faith in the risen Lord every day, that we may overcome this world. As we have overcome through simple faith in Christ, may we continue to overcome this day as we trust fully in Thee for all things, anchoring our faith and confidence in the Lord. Help us, Lord, that we may overcome all things through Thee. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
