John 20:21
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
What a glorious evening it was when the disciples saw the Lord as they gathered together, meeting in a closed room. The Lord had been crucified, and they had not seen Him sense His resurrection. Mary Magdalene had, and had shared the wonderful, earth-shattering news. But now they are seeing for themselves. They had been afraid. They had much uncertainty and doubt. They knew not what had become of their beloved Master. So when they saw Him as literally as they saw one another, their hearts were full of joy.
The words of Christ came off His lips as a great balm for their sorrowing souls. He said, “Peace be unto you.” What peace His presence would bring! And what peace His presence has brought to every disciple since! When we are gathered together, Jesus is in the midst. Where two or three are gathered, He is in the midst! What peace we may have as we gather, knowing that we are not gathering without Him. But then, our Lord gave a commission. “As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” Jesus was sent into this world on a mission from His Father to die for the world and to save the world. So are we on a great and global mission to save this world. We will only save this world by telling them of the Son. For if they believe in the Son, they may have life through His name!
Now, my brother or sister, are you fulfilling this mission today? As the Father sent the Son, the Son has sent you to be His missionary, His spokesperson, His ambassador. You are to be an emissary for the Lord today. Someone needs to hear the gospel from your lips. Oh, dear friend, you have a mission in the vicinity of which God has divinely placed you. You are set in His harvest fields. You are a sent one, a called one, and a commissioned one. Man or woman, great or small, all of Christ’s disciples are sent by Him into the world. Neglect not His mission today!
“Father, we thank you for sending your Son into this world for us. Dear Lord Jesus, we thank you for the work you accomplished for us. May we embark happily and faithfully on the mission to which you have called us, declaring with love and with passion the gospel of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Please show us this day what the mission is to which we are individually commissioned. We want to obey Thy bidding. May we be faithful messengers. Please help us by our guide and Comforter, the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
