1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

What a glorious truth, and what an immensely helpful thought it is to think that He careth for you! The Lord cares! He attends upon you with the dearest and sweetest solicitude. He looks after you as He looks after the sparrows, the ravens, and the stars. But are ye not of more value than many sparrows? He cares for you even more than all others of His creation. He carefully and diligently watches over the needs of His own. Oh, my beloved, never forget that He careth for you.

Now, this is why we are commanded to cast our cares upon Him. Casting means we are “throwing” them on Him. It does not simply mean that we should stop worrying and place our burdens on Him; it means that as soon as worry enters the mind, we are to cast it, as a dirty rag, upon the Lord! We are to throw it, as something hideous and unwanted, away from us, and upon the Savior. We are to come unto Him when we are weary and heavy laden, knowing that He shall give us rest. Now how will He give this rest? By taking our burdens away from us and receiving them on Himself. The dear Savior who went to dark Calvary for us, receiving the weight of all the world’s sin, can, no doubt, bear my little cares. I must throw them upon Him!

My friend, is there any worry in your heart today? It must not remain! It must be cast, as unsavory and unsightly, out of our hearts and lives, and into the hands of our great Savior. Is something overburdening you? Is something a constant nag and a continual drain? Do not let it be! Go to the mercy seat, where all cares may be left once and for all. Do not seek to sustain the burdens of this life. The journey is too great for thee! We must go in His strength, by throwing off all impedances and hindrances—the sin which doth so easily beset us—that we may run our course with patience and with joy. Brother or sister, cast all your care upon Him, knowing full well of His great care for you!

The hymn writer says:

“Is there a heart o’erbound by sorrow?

Is there a life weighed down by care?

Come to the cross, each burden bearing;

All your anxiety—leave it there.

All your anxiety, all your care,

Bring to the mercy seat, leave it there,

Never a burden He cannot bear,

Never a friend like Jesus!”

“Father, how we praise Thee that Thou dost care so for us. May we never bear a burden alone again, for we have no reason to do so. You will take it all if we will give it all! We cast now our cares upon Thee, knowing that Thou dost so mercifully care for us. We praise Thee for Thy great care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
