Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Anyone that has lived life for even a few years knows the weariness that can sometimes accompany it. They know that we can often be faint in our attempts and activities of life. In the course of things, we lose strength, and even fall. Even the youths shall faint and be weary! And the young men shall utterly fall! Yes, how true this is! Perhaps you are faint even as you read this. Perhaps your strength is dried up like a potsherd, and there is little life and vitality left in your body. Your bones have been depleted of nourishment, your body is frail, and your spirit vapid. What will you do? Where will you find help and renewed life?

The answer is here! They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength! Wait means to expect something; look patently upon someone. Do you expect strength from the Lord? It does not mean that we do nothing, but only sit and hope that the Lord will one day breathe new life into us. But it means we look to Him for strength, rather than anyone else. Our eyes wait for Him, our faces are turned upward to Him. We are not looking for strength in mankind, neither are we looking for it in the allurements about us. We are not expecting to find the answer in money, fortune, or riches. We do not look to sources of this earth below to fill our cup, but our cup is upturned toward the Lord. We know that it is only He that can fill it. He will renew our strength! The Word of God shall enliven and encourage us constantly and daily if only we will expect it there! Why are we weak and listless? Why are we lifeless and weary? Because we have looked for something within us or around us. No, my friend! It comes not from those things. We must wait on Him! We must look to Him alone!

What shall be the result of our looking to Him? It shall renew our strength. We shall mount up with wings as eagles. We will soar above this world to a new realm. We will ascend into the skies beyond the noise of strife! It will allow us to run and not be weary! It will give us sustained and continual strength, if we go every moment to Him. He will reenergize us, giving us the fuel and power that keeps us moving forward. And we shall walk, and not faint! Life can be compared to a race. It also can be compared to a hike, in which we are not running, but rather walking upon various and sundry terrains, and we need vitality to keep going. If we’ll allow the Lord to be the fountain-head of joy, and the source of strength, we will have the ability to run and not be weary, and to walk and not faint. But, dear friends, we must look to the Lord for it, waiting upon Him alone. He will give you the strength!

“Now Father, we praise you for the strength you provide each day as we turn to you for it. Help us to look unto the Lord for the power and strength that we are looking for each morning, noon, and night. Let us look to you, and none others for this strength. Let us wait upon you. We reach out to you now to take this strength that you have promised. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
