Romans 13:10
Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
The Lord has a marvelous way of simplifying things, of boiling it down to that which is truly important—the substance of the matter. The whole law is comprehended in this saying! Love one another! That is it! Did not Christ tell us that the two greatest commandments are to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbor as ourself? Did He not affirm that on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets? Surely He did! For these two commandments are the foundational commandments, upon which all others are based, and from which all others grow. Why should we not kill, steal, and covet? Because that is not love! Why should we “remember the Sabbath Day,” and never take His name in vain? Because if we love Him, this is how we will live! You see, love is the fulfilling of the law!
Now, my friend, any struggle that may occur between two parties can generally be solved by the resurgence of love between them. If there is strife and envying, then there may not be love as there should be. What causes wars, and takes away peace between brethren? Love has waxed cold! It must be reignited again! We must come back to this commandment—love one another! Love worketh no ill to his neighbor! With true love, there cannot be a hidden wish, or a secret curse. With true charity among brethren, there will not be the sowing of discord, because love does not work ill. It edifies. We are told to “follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” See Romans 14:19. If this is not happening, it is not true love. If we want to know how to please the Lord, and how to make peace, we must edify; we must love one another. For make no mistake about it, my brother or sister, love is the fulfilling of the law!
“Father, we thank you for this great truth that is the originator of all other truths. Without this truth we would lose our way, without a point of reference. But love is the most supreme virtue, and the most profound quality. Without love, we have no virtue or quality. May we show love to others in every way today, without exception. Let us fulfill the law of Christ today by bearing the burdens of others through true love. This is the only way we can fulfill Thy law! Please help us today to show love and give love as you have so lavishly done towards us. In Christ’s name we ask these things, Amen.”
