1 Peter 1:4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.
The epistle of Peter presents one of the most powerful and beautiful writings in all of Scripture. This chapter alone could be the subject of great and continued discussion. We could never plumb the depths of it, or comprehend all the beauty contained therein. And this man! The one who denied Christ, who said he would go with the Lord to death—ultimately did just that! He died for the cause of Christ, not before he bequeathed to us this glorious and encouraging epistle. Many a time has my faith been strengthened and my assurance bolstered by the heavenly tonic of his inspired words. For see! All that I have in Christ is already mine! There is no need to worry about losing it! No risk that it might be taken away! I am kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation! It is ready to be revealed! All these things are reserved in Heaven for me!
How could I be discouraged when graced by such words? How could my spirit be low when I am lifted to such planes of rapturous joy and peace? How could I doubt again? For the Word of the Lord here asserts that I have an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled! Everything I have now is corruptible, as silver and gold is corruptible. Moth and rust doth corrupt! Thieves break through and steal! All that I have is able to be defiled. But not my eternal inheritance! It cannot be marred, corroded, tainted, or devalued. Never will its beauty be tarnished, nor its value diminished. Never will it be snatched away or looted by a sinful person. Never will rodents and animals infest it or an arsonist incinerate it. Never will anyone take it away! No one! It is reserved in Heaven for me! And furthermore, the apostle proceeds a little further by saying that it fadeth not away! Oh! Have you noticed? Have you taken thought of how all things fade in their original beautify? Never does it last in its first brightness past the span of one day. As soon as something is made, the luster of it at once begins to wane. So are our own bodies. But you see, none of this is true of our inheritance in Heaven, that inheritance that we can already call “mine.” It never looses its beauty or radiance. Never will the bright shining of the golden gems become bedimmed by the corruption of the environment. It is beautiful for ever! It never fadeth away!
Now, my dear friend, would you take great encouragement here from these statements, and find yourself enlivened by its eternal medicine? All we have is forever reserved. If His Word liveth and abideth forever, so will the promises contained in its pages. We are kept by His power! Nothing fades away in Heaven, but is reserved for us. Our names are irrevocable engraved on our inheritance. It cannot be snatched away or lost. Be of good cheer! Take heart! A better day is coming! Rejoice and be exceeding glad, yea, rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory, for all this is reserved in Heaven for you!
“Father, we come to you today with hearts full of thanksgiving and gratitude. We are filled with excitement and anticipation for the day in which Christ will be revealed and our inheritance will be realized. But until then, may our hearts go on singing, because every thing is as good as though we had it now. There is a reservation made in the heavens for that which you have promised us. It cannot be corrupted or defiled, and it will not be taken away. How could we truly praise you for this? We will have all eternity to do that. Therefore let us rejoice in this glorious promise today! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
