Ephesians 2:22
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
One of the most incredible and mind-exulting truths of Holy Writ is the miraculous truth that God lives in us. The apostle says, “Christ liveth in me.” And here we find that we are “an habitation of God.” And then, more than once, we find that it is written that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. God dwells in us by His Spirit, so that we have become His temple. We are His habitation, His dwelling. Does not the psalmist say that he had made the Lord, the most High, his habitation? We dwell in Him, and He dwells in us. What a stupendous and wonderful thought! What a savory encouragement! The Lord dwells in me by His Spirit!
Now, my friend, as we ponder on this truth momentarily today, we must think, is my body fit for His dwelling? Am I a vessel unto honor, sanctified and meet for the Master’s use? My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. May I not defile the Temple! It is where He dwells! He needs a clean dwelling place, a suitable home in which to live. I do not want to grieve the Spirit through the presence of impurities, nor quench Him by my ignorance of His presence. If you are a saved and redeemed man or woman, the Spirit dwells in you, for if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. Think on it today! Christ in you! The Spirit in you! God dwells in you! You are a habitation of God! May His habitation be pure, holy, cleansed, and undefiled by the filthiness and sordid uncleanness of the flesh. By God’s Spirit, we must be made a clean dwelling. Let us submit to His cleansing today!
“Father, we do praise you wholeheartedly for the truth that God dwells with man, that He tabernacles among us by living in us. We pray that our hearts, minds, and souls would be filled with the Spirit and not with the things of the flesh or of this world. Clean us. Purify us. Prepare us to be fit for Thy dwelling. Make us Thy home. We pray these things in Christ’s loving name, Amen.”
