Romans 6:22
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
There are many wonderful things that the salvation of God has wrought for us. As Romans so clearly enunciates for us, we have everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We have justification by faith, and His righteousness has been gloriously imputed upon us. Death is our wage, but eternal life is our gift. But one of the greatest things Christ has done for us in our salvation is to deliver us from the power of sin. Therefore, we are free from sin! Before we encountered the loving grace of our Savior, we were free from righteousness. It was impossible to be righteous without the cleansing power of His blood. We would never be righteous. But then when Christ saved our souls, He saved us from the ugly, ignoble, menacing dominance of sin. The huge looming darkness that overshadowed us is lifted! The chains that once bound our souls and enslaved our spirits have now been broken by the blood of Christ. We are free from sin! And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty!
So then, if we are freed and liberated from the kingship and tyranny of our iniquity, why do we still submit to its power? If we are free, why are we acting as servants. Does it not say that “his servants ye are to whom ye obey?” Are you obeying the flesh and sin, or are you obeying the Spirit of God. You see, we should only be servants to One—that is Christ! Ye became servants to God! And what is the product of this? Fruit unto holiness is the result of being a servant unto God! Do you want to know how to be holy, how to hate and victoriously conquer sin, and how to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit? Submit to God! Yield to Him! Be His servant! What freedom is involved in the servanthood of the Christian! How freeing! How liberating! It is a joy to serve the King! We must yield to our Master, for the end of all this is everlasting life!
Dear beloved brother or sister in Christ, whose servant shall you be today? Whether of bondage unto sin, or of obedience unto righteousness, we must make the conscious choice. Make the choice today to be a yielded servant to Christ. And do not yield to the cries and calls of the carnal nature. Yield yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead! Yield your members as instruments of righteousness! Because in this way, you will be free from sin, and you will be alive unto God! Yield today to the Master, and you will be free.
“Father, help us this day to yield to the Lord Jesus, and to live as those that have been made alive from the dead. Thank you that Christ has truly rescued and redeemed us from Satan’s authority and despotism. We now have marvelous freedom in Christ to live unto righteousness. May we this day be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God. May we live unto righteousness this day! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
