Genesis 6:8
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
In Genesis 6-8, we find the account of the flood of Noah’s day. The earth began to be corrupted, and all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. The imaginations of the thoughts of their hearts were only evil continually. And we are told that it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. God regretted having made man, because of the utter corruption and sinfulness into which they had plunged. And this is always the nature of man since the beginning, when sin entered the world. There is none that seeketh after God, for they are all gone astray. The debauchery and baseness of the world was so dissolute at the time of Noah’s flood, that only Noah and his family were found to be followers of the Lord. And in this terrible day in which they lived, the Word of God tells us that “Noah walked with God.” Even in the most wicked and perverted world, it is possible with God’s help and grace to walk with Him. That is the single and only way to stay true to the Lord, as there will be persecutions, oppositions, temptations on every side. The allurements of sin, and the exhibitions of the flesh will be ubiquitous. They can only be resisted by a strong and faithful walk with the Lord. And what a powerful lesson this is from the life of Noah! God chose to save the world through Noah and his family. Otherwise all that had breath would be forever obliterated, and no sign of life would ever exist again. However, the Lord did not choose to do that, but instead He chose to start everything over again. And He began with Noah. For Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
What a suggestive statement this is! The eyes of the Lord! Grace! Grace in the eyes of the Lord! For our Lord is a God of compassion and mercy, slow to anger, of great kindness, and repenteth of the evil that He righteously intended. His eyes are full of grace and mercy! We can find grace in His eyes if we will look for it! Have you not found abundant grace in Him? Have you not found an everlasting store of mercy with the Lord? For His eyes are eyes of grace! Because of His eyes of grace, He looked down from Heaven on the children of men, beheld our plight, and sent a Savior! And that Savior spoke with gracious words, and looked upon a lost world with compassion. God is a gracious God. He has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquity. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Oh yes! There is grace in the eyes of the Lord!
Do you have sin today, dear one, that needs to be forgiven? There is grace for you. Have you wandered from the fold? Come back to the gracious God that has eyes for you. If He spared a whole wicked world because of one man’s righteousness, no doubt His mercy is without limit or boundary. His grace is beyond measure. Look to Him for grace today. And may our own eyes toward others be eyes of grace and mercy! If God has shown such grace on us, we must be gracious to our fellow man, and especially to them who are of the household of faith. May others find grace in our eyes, for we have found grace in the eyes of the Lord!
“Thank you, Lord, that we have found grace, as Noah did, in the eyes of the Lord. Thank you that you are such a gracious and merciful God. May we, as your children, show grace to others. We know that we are held in your hand. Help us, Father, to thank you every day for the grace you bestow on us. Make this day a day of grace, both in receiving it from the Lord, and in giving it to others. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
