Genesis 5:24

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Enoch is one of the first major characters in the Bible that stands as a great and godly example. Abel is the first, then Enos could be mentioned, and there are others in the godly line of Seth. But soon we come upon Enoch, the son of Jared, and the father of Methuselah, the man with the longest known life span. Enoch is peculiar because he did not die a normal death, or even at all. He graduated from earth to glory without the sting of death. God saw fit, for some purposes described in Scripture, and perhaps some outside our knowledge, to take him away from this world by surpassing the normal event of decease. Everyone else, with the exception of Elijah, the man of God, dies the death of all men, without exemption. But Enoch! Enoch did not die! For before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God! He was unique, a great saint for his time, a man unparalleled in the line of patriarchs. But how did this man achieve such a place? Why was it that God chose him to take to Himself? What caused him to stand head and shoulders above the rest? What set him apart? Of what material was his uniqueness made? And what great lesson can we glean from such a man of God?

You see, Enoch walked with God. That is the secret. But, truth be told, it is no secret, for it is recorded for us in the plainest language and the clearest annunciations in the words of Scripture. “Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” He walked with his God, and one day exited the world to enter the next. He was in step with the Lord, and made a seamless transition to be with the Lord. It was only sensible! He entered the place He wanted to be — with the Lord forever. Of whom the world was not worthy! For this world, with its fleshly appetites, and prideful desires, had no place with him. He did not belong here! He was transported to a place where he could worship unmolested by the throngs of sin and the universal presence of evil. He was taken! God took him! He wanted him for Himself! Oh, that the Lord would see fit to do the same for me! Oh, that I may have this relationship with Him! What a glory it would be!

Oh, my dear friend, there is one answer to everything. We many times ruminate and meditate, and wonder and worry over the things we do not know how to fix, things we cannot hardly deal with. And yet, and yet! The answer to everything, the solution to my plight is before me! I have wondered why things concern me so, or have longed for the quietness and peace that others have! But there is but one way to have it! It can be obtained! We can have peace and joy no matter what may seem to obstruct it. We may have communion and fellowship that our souls require daily! And it is done in one way. By walking with God. You must walk with God today! It will calm you, strengthen you, edify you, and help you along your trouble-strewn way. Things will no longer seem unbearable. It will no longer be beyond your capacity. For you will give it all to Jesus. This will happen by walking in step with the Savior, staying close to His wounded, riven side. Don’t think you can successfully get through life any other way. It is a farce to think that it is possible to do so. Christ must walk with you. And He will walk with you if you will walk with Him. Walk with God today! Feast on His Word and bask in His presence, for there is no other way to truly live a life that pleases the Lord, and there is no other way to handle the cares about us and difficulties before us. This is the answer, take it or leave it. Dear friend, I hope you will consider this great truth today. Walk with Him, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus.

“Precious Savior, thank you for answering our questions this morning. Now it is a question of obedience. You have shown us the way, now please help us to walk with you, every day and every hour. We need you constantly and continuously. We need you every moment. Help us to walk with you, so that whenever you see fit to transition us to the excellent glory, it may be a logical step, and a joyful entrance. O master, let me walk with Thee! In the name of Jesus Christ our Savior we pray, Amen.”
