Genesis 1:31
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
My heart is considering a mighty truth, and pondering a great principle. For the book of Genesis gives us the roots for everything. It is the sprout of all doctrine, all veracity, and all understanding. It is the seed of all things great and small. And what a great account it includes of the creation of all things, and the development of mankind! But, in chapter 1, we see just the account of the creation of the flora and fauna, the beasts of the earth, the fowls and the fish of the sea, and then of the man and the woman. We see how He has set the magnificent stars in the wide expanse of the firmament. We see how He has placed the sun and the moon in their courses. He has created the animals of the earth that would roam the whole planet. He created all the herbs, trees, grass, and fruit, given them as meat for man and the beasts of the field. We see how that He has created this amazing creature called Man, that was made in His image, and in His own likeness. He breathed into His nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. And then we find the account of Adam’s loneliness, and how God formed and fashioned a beautiful woman, who would provide the help Adam needed as well as the great companionship his soul longed for. She would be the fulfillment of all his earthly needs. She would be, in many ways, the pinnacle of God’s amazing creation. Although the creation of the woman is not given until chapter 2, that chapter is just a specification of the general creation delineated in chapter 1. And then at the end of the first chapter of the Bible, after the Lord has created all things in this earth and in space, we see the great and wonderful pronouncement that every thing He has created is very good!
For, you see, God had said after each individual day of Creation that His works were good. But after all things are created, and we are able to see a panorama, a great overview of all that God created, He declares it to be very good. And that it is! All the trees and grass! The birds of the air and the fish of the sea! The large beasts and the microscopic organisms! The immense, incalculably large stars, and the tiny amoebas of the oceans! All of it is very good! The man and His wife, and the unique relationship they enjoyed! And then! And then! The communion and fellowship they had with God! It is all, no doubt, very good!
And today I write these things to remind you that this same principle holds true for everything God has ever done since the creation of the world. It is all very good! Think of the calling and choosing of His people! Their deliverance from bondage! Think of the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, and how He stepped into this sin cursed world, and became a curse for us! And how He promises all things will end in victory! It is all very good. And, beloved, all is good that He is doing with you. The trials of your life. The darkness that sometimes you face. The furnace of fire that purifies you. The gains and losses of life. The uncertainties that cause us to seek wholeheartedly after Him. The friends that God gives. The acquaintances that help to shape us! The struggles and difficulties of earthly relationships. And the wonderful working of God’s hand in each of our lives’ events to bring us to a better knowledge of Him, and to a greater closeness to His plan for us-to conform us to the image of His Son. It is all very good! Praise Him today for everything! For it is all very good! Rejoice evermore! Because everything He does He is doing for your good. He doesn’t make mistakes, blunders, or accidents. He does all on purpose, and be assured, my dear friend, that because His hand has wrought it, it is all very good!
“And now, Father, how we praise you for what you have taught us. All things you do are very good. And we choose to place our faith in this great truth today. Just as all creation was perfect and splendid, so your works in our lives are intricately planned and perfectly performed. We may not always see the good, but it works together for good. Thank you that you do all things well! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
