Revelation 10:7

But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

The book of Revelation is replete with apocalyptic imagery of the end times. Some, no doubt is literal, and some, I am sure, is figurative. But of one thing we can be certain: it is all spiritual. The spiritual applications of this book are infinite. The truths contained therein permeate all of life, and seep into the very fabric of our lives. God is speaking to us on every page of this book, and He is speaking to you and me this morning.

For notice this stupendous principle enshrined in the pages of Scripture. The mystery of God! What a mystery it is! A wondrous unrevealed universe of beauty and truth! An unveiled picture of His eternal plan! An uncharted sea of wonder! A closed vault of inestimable treasure! It is the endlessness of His love; it is the full reality of His mercy! It is hid from our sight; it is concealed from our perception. And this, my friend, is a wise thing. For if we saw everything, we would desire no more. We would be in Heaven already. We would not be on earth. If we saw everything, we would accomplish nothing, and be useful in nothing, for we would be in such constant amazement, that the novelty of it would overwhelm everything else about us. Our minds would be utterly incapable of receiving any other stimuli or input. But God, in His wisdom and discernment, has only revealed enough to cause us to love and worship Him, to search His Scriptures daily, and to seek daily communion with Him. It is to keep us knowledgeable of the fact that the half has not been told, that we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face. We shall see Him, and shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. All of this keeps us longing, keeps us looking, keeps us believing, keeps us trusting.

For you see, as we look into this beautiful truth today, we are reminded of the unsearchable riches of His wisdom, and the unplumbable depth of His goodness. His ways are past finding out! As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than our ways, and His thoughts than our thoughts. See Isaiah 55:8-9. Therefore we look to Him for all things. There is a mystery of God! There is much we do not know! But it is a glorious mystery! It is an amazing story! It is a most wonderful promise! That He hath made every thing beautiful in His time! So that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end! See Ecclesiastes 3:11. We cannot tell! We know it not! Our knowledge is reputed as nothing compared to His! You know not what God is doing! My dear one, do not discount the invisible work of God! Do not disbelieve His work that is done in the shadows! For the mystery of God is not finished! One day it will be! But the end is not yet! He is still at work! When the trumpet sounds, it shall be finished! But until then, we have only to trust, to believe, to depend, to hope, to pray, and to praise God this day for the unfinished mystery of God.

“Oh Father, we thank Thee that Thou art working beyond our vision, our sight, or our realm of understanding. The mystery of God is hidden from us, but is nonetheless eternal in its magnitude and powerful in its working. We know that Thou art working all things for our good. And until that mystery is finished, we ask that by the aid of Thy Spirit, we may trust the unseen, unknown, and unfathomable mystery of God. Help us to trust wholeheartedly and unreservedly in this today. In Jesus’ lovely name we pray, Amen.”

The mystry is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27. What assurance!
