Psalm 65:9

Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

As in the beginning of the creation of the earth, God enriched Eden with the River of God that proceeded from the garden and parted into four heads, so He continues to enrich this earth. He crowns the year with His goodness, and His paths drop fatness (see verse 11). The rich goodness of God is continually seen in nature, and can be experienced with simply walking in the woods or taking in the morning dew laden air.

But, my friends, there are spiritual implications of this verse, that we must not miss. This verse reminds us that God Himself is the One who enriches the earth, and does He not in the same way enrich our lives? The paths of the Lord drop fatness. The psalmist also says, “I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy likeness,” and in another place, “He hath filled the hungry with good things,” and then again, “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness!” The River of God is for all of us! It is a brook from which we must drink every morning. The refreshing, cool spring will enliven and invigorate our thirsty souls! It will be as though we were imbibing new life!

My friend, are you drinking every day of the River of God? Are you satisfying your thirst with the water of the Word? “Blessed are they which thirst after righteousness,” the Master says, “for they shall be filled.” When you awake each morning, do not turn to any other source of strength, encouragement, and nourishment but to the fountain of living waters, to the Word of Life! May you find deep satisfaction and lasting nourishment through His ever-abounding and never-ending River of God!

“And now, our Father, we know that you have provided us the fountain of living waters. But we confess that we have not always run to it for satisfaction, but have gone to the lesser and nether springs. Please forgive us for how we have failed Thee, and remind us every day of the River of the water of life, that is clear as crystal and ready to be drunken. Oh, may we find eternal satisfaction there, and may we find refreshment at that spring for every day! We praise Thee that Thou art the provider of all our needs. In Jesus’ lovely name we praise Thee, Amen.”
